AISC-AISI Publishes Industry Joint Standard:
Standard Definitions for Use in the Design of Steel Structures

Supplement 2 to AISI S214-07 (North American Standard for Cold-Formed Steel Framing – Truss Design, 2007 Edition).This supplement was issued in June 2008. It completely replaces Supplement 1 to AISI S214-07, and revises and clarifies provisions related to design responsibilities, loading, quality criteria and bracing for greater consistency with building codes and industry practice. Specifically, the purpose of this supplement is to better harmonize with the provisions desired by involved industry groups, including NCSEA and WTCA, which were initially documented in IBC Proposal S209-07/08. Click here to download this document in pdf format (193 KB).

Supplement 2 to AISI S230-07 (Standard for Cold-Formed Steel Framing – Prescriptive Method for One- and Two-Family Dwellings, 2007 Edition).  This supplement was issued in June 2008. AISI to Participate in Cold-Formed Steel Seismic Design Research
12/03/2010 - WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) announced today that its Seismic Code Team will partner with the Johns Hopkins University (JHU) and the University of North Texas on two research projects that will advance the seismic design of cold-formed steel (CFS) for light-frame construction.

AISI and CSA Announce Supplement No. 2 to the North American Specification for the Design of Cold-Formed Steel Structural Members 9/22/2010, WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), in cooperation with the CSA (Canadian Standards Association), announced today that Supplement No. 2 to AISI S100 (CSA S136), the North American Specification for the Design of Cold-Formed Steel Structural Members, 2007 Edition (S100-07/S2-10), has been published and is available free of charge on AISI’s website at www.steel.org and through CSA Standards at www.shopcsa.ca.

MBMA Releases Fire Resistance Design Guide for Metal Building Systems
09/24/2010 - CLEVELAND, OHIO – The Metal Building Manufacturers Association (MBMA) announces the release of the 2010 Fire Resistance Design Guide for Metal Building Systems. The guide provides building owners, architects, engineers, specifiers, fire marshals, building code officials, contractors, product vendors, builders and metal building manufacturers information on how to effectively meet fire resistance requirements of a project with metal building systems.
 
AISI Seeks New Members for Its Seismic Design Subcommittee
08/11/2010- WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) is seeking experts on seismic design and the analysis of cold-formed steel structural systems to participate on its Seismic Design Subcommittee.

06/21/2010- WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) has published AISI S213-07-S1-09, North American Standard for Cold-Formed Steel Framing—Lateral Design 2007 Edition With Supplement No. 1 to incorporate research findings on diagonal strap-braced walls, along with other updates. AISI Standard S213 addresses the design of lateral force-resisting systems to resist wind and seismic forces in a wide range of buildings constructed with cold-formed steel framing.

Industry Releases Report on Laboratory Testing of Wall Track Anchorage to Concrete
05/06/2010- Washington, DC - A joint AISI/SFA/SSMA Project Monitoring Task Group has released a report on the testing of wall track anchorage to concrete that was conducted at the laboratories of Hilti North America in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Authored by Roger A. LaBoube, Ph.D. of the Missouri University of Science and Technology, this report is referenced in the public comments made by AISI and SFA on ICC code change proposal S167-09/10.

Steel Industry Announces Roger A. Laboube, Ph.D. as a Recipient of the 2010 Market Development Industry Leadership Award
05/04/2010- Boca Raton, FL – AISI’s Steel Market Development Institute (SMDI) announced today that Roger A. LaBoube, Ph.D., distinguished teaching professor, Department of Civil Engineering and director of the Wei-Wen Yu Center for Cold-Formed Steel Structures at the Missouri University of Science and Technology, is a recipient of the 2010 Market Development Industry Leadership Award.

AISI Publishes Design Flowchart for Using The North American Specification and AISI Cold-Formed Steel Design Manual
09/25/2009 -WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) announced today the publication of a Design Flowchart for using the 2007 Edition of the North American Specification and the 2008 Edition of the AISI Cold-Formed Steel Design Manual. AISI and Steel Framing Alliance Commend Decision to Include Light-Frame Cold-Formed Steel Questions on P.E. Exam
09/25/2009 -Washington, D.C. –- The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) and the Steel Framing Alliance (SFA) commend the decision by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) to include questions on light-frame cold-formed steel (CFS) construction on the exam that determines Professional Engineer accreditation.
 
AISI to Co-Sponsor Cold-Formed Steel Structures Short Course
